Image of a female model for cosmetic procedure, Princeton, NJAnnually, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) releases statistical data about the year’s trends in plastic surgery. Some of the top trending procedures among men and women for the past year were nose reshaping (rhinoplasty), eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), BOTOX® injections, and soft tissue fillers.

Of the cosmetic surgeries performed last year, Rhinoplasty was the second-ranking chosen procedure. As the nose is the most prominent feature of the face, it can greatly impact our appearance. Injury can require a nose job for some, but the most popular reason for this procedure is dissatisfaction with the nose you were born with or bleak feelings on how aging has changed the appearance of your nose. Rhinoplasty is a complicated procedure and should always be performed by a qualified, skilled surgeon. You can learn more details about blepharoplasty here.

Another top-ranking procedure according to the ASPS is blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery. As early as the age of 30, the skin in the upper and lower eyelids begins to change. Puffy and sagging eyelids can cause people to look sad, tired, or even sick. An eyelid lift can bring life back into the eyes and provide a much more youthful appearance.

The most popular procedure performed in 2013 was injections of  Botulinum Toxin A, commonly referred to as “BOTOX®.”  BOTOX® acts as a temporary paralytic agent that works to essentially erase newly formed wrinkles. Soft tissue fillers are used to correct long existing deeply established wrinkles that BOTOX may not be able to correct. Both types of injections are considered minimally invasive, and can have positive effects on the refinement of wrinkles and the overall presentation of the face. Soft tissue fillers can also be used in the lips to help contribute to a more friendly and approachable smile.
