Acne scars, redness, age spots, and sun damage can cause blemishes and patches of color on the skin. While skincare products and lifestyle changes can help clear the skin, more progressive cases of uneven skin tone on the face or body will need non-invasive procedures like laser therapy to provide quick and optimal results.

Skincare Regimen for Uneven Skin Tone

A consistent skincare regimen is key to treating uneven skin tone and achieving healthier skin. Dermatologists recommend a simple daily routine that includes a cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Exfoliating your skin once or twice a week with a gentle scrub or chemical exfoliant also helps remove dead skin cells and promote cell renewal, revealing a brighter complexion with a more even skin tone.

Double board-certified facial plastic surgeon Eugenie Brunner, MD, FACS, understands how a daily routine is essential to achieving positive results. She developed a specialized range of skincare products to help her patients rejuvenate their skin at home. Formulated with medical-grade ingredients, her skincare line can address the most common skin concerns, including uneven skin tone.

In-Office Treatments for Uneven Skin Tone

Laser devices we use for uneven skin tone on the face or body include:

Fraxel

The Fraxel DUAL combines two fractional therapies for addressing specific skin concerns. Its 1927 nm wavelength is designed to improve skin tone, texture, and other signs of aging that are closer to the skin’s surface. The Fraxel Dual is a stronger treatment option compared to intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy or Clear + Brilliant, but it can offer impressive results with minimal downtime compared to CO2 lasers like the Fraxel Re:pair.

Following a treatment session, patients can expect to see improvement in their skin tone and texture. Many individuals report having softer and smoother skin that is brighter and more even.

Fraxel Re:pair

Fraxel Re:pair treatment is a more aggressive laser resurfacing procedure used to treat the most severe signs of skin damage. It is considered the premier fractional ablative CO2 laser designed to treat wrinkles, sun-damaged skin, discoloration due to sun exposure, and redness.

In just one treatment, the skin becomes smoother and tighter with more even skin tone and texture.

Clear + Brilliant

Clear + Brilliant is less aggressive than Fraxel. While results are more subtle, this device can achieve healthy, glowing skin by improving skin tone, texture, pigment, and other early signs of aging and sun damage.

Clear + Brilliant provides immediate and long-term results. Patients see improvement in skin tone, texture, and brightness within a few days after treatment. Because of collagen production, aesthetic improvements continue for weeks or months after treatment.

PicoSure

While known for removing tattoos, PicoSure is a gentle, quick, and versatile way to refresh your skin’s appearance. It can reduce the appearance of scars, brown spots, and sun damage, minimizing the visibility of the most common signs of aging.

Unlike lasers that use intense heat, PicoSure delivers small bursts of energy deep within the skin to target damaged tissue without harming the surrounding skin. It effectively breaks up pigment in age spots, brown spots, and melanin while triggering the production of new collagen and elastin. The result is healthier and visibly clearer skin with a more even skin tone, with minimal downtime and discomfort, and with fewer treatments.

IPL

IPL is similar to laser therapy but gentler because the light is less focused and more scattered, which means it can penetrate deeper layers of the skin without damaging the top layer.
A FotoFacial IPL treatment combines IPL with bipolar radiofrequency (RF) to correct skin concerns like brown spots, sunspots, rosacea, scarring, sun damage, and uneven skin tone and texture. Regular IPL treatments help increase collagen production, which gives your skin an even tone and healthy appearance.

ADVATx

With two wavelengths (589 nm or 1319 nm), ADVATx can improve the skin’s tone, texture, and overall health and appearance. It targets acne, acne scars, redness, rosacea, skin tone and texture, and fine wrinkles. Patients can achieve immediate results with little to no discomfort and minimal to no recovery.

ADVATx is a gentle procedure that can be performed on patients of all ages and most skin types and tones.

Fractora/Morpheus8

Fractora/Morpheus8 is more aggressive when compared to traditional microneedling. Fractora RF and Morpheus8 combine RF energy and microneedling, and these two modalities address concerns such as lines, acne scars, and uneven texture.

The fractional RF energy can be delivered to the skin using various intensities and depths, stimulating collagen production without damaging the top layer. The procedure enhances and refreshes your appearance without the downtime associated with surgery.

EZ PRF Gel/PRP/PRF

EZ PRF Gel, PRP (platelet-rich plasma), and PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) are anti-aging treatments with skin-rejuvenating properties. They stimulate collagen production using your own growth factors and promote tissue regeneration to remedy the appearance of lines and wrinkles and improve the skin’s overall appearance.

To collect PRP/PRF, Dr. Brunner draws from the patient and places it in a centrifuge so that the plasma separates from the red blood cells. The plasma is then placed into a syringe and injected into the skin.

EZ PRF combines PRF with albumin to create a natural filler that may be safer than most injectables because it uses your body’s own blood components.

These treatments are minimally invasive and can easily be combined with other treatments like microneedling, facials, and lasers. They can even enhance the results of other cosmetic procedures and reduce recovery time.
